Dr. Scott Cowie
Dr. Scott Cowie is a General Surgeon in New Westminster with a broad referral practice in endoscopy and general surgery. In practice since 2008, he performs a high volume of colonoscopy and gastroscopy, with particular interests in advanced colonoscopy, complex polypectomy, hernia surgery, gallbladder disease, pilonidal disease, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
He has also held a longstanding interest in endoscopy quality, standards, and surgical systems improvement, including colon screening oversight, structured endoscopist assessment, and regional implementation of digital and AI-assisted endoscopy platforms.
Dr. Cowie has performed Bascom cleft lift surgery since 2015 after mentorship with Dr. Bascom in Oregon, and participates in an international collaborative based in Denmark focused on pilonidal disease classification and treatment algorithms.
He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, Regional Division Head of General Surgery for Fraser Health, and Medical Director of New Westminster Surgical Centre.
Dr. Michael Goodwin
Dr. Goodwin began at Langley in 2014. He led the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery program at Langley and is now implementing a Prehabilitation program for patients undergoing colorectal surgery. . He holds a Diploma in Global Health from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and has worked in Rwanda and Zambia providing surgical care.
Dr. Sarah Lord
Dr. Lord was recruited to Langley in 2017. She holds a Fellowship in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. She is an active Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor, teaching these life-saving skills to professionals across the province. She has family roots in the Langley community.
Dr. Lan Vu
Dr. Vu arrived at Langley in 2013. He is the Division Head for General Surgery at LMH. He received a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery following his general surgery training. He performs advanced foregut as well as laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery at Langley.
Dr. Vivian Ma
Dr. Ma joined Langley in 2024. She has an advanced fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Ma specializes in complex hernia repairs, including laparoscopic techniques, and coordinates the surgical residency program at Langley.
